Bears sign Notre Dame OL Josh Lugg after rookie camp tryout

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears have signed Notre Dame offensive lineman Josh Lugg after a rookie minicamp tryout this weekend.

At 6'7 and 310 lbs, Lugg is a force to be reckoned with on every block and played all 13 games at right guard last season.

Lugg's achievements at Notre Dame are impressive, and he was recently honored as part of the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll, which recognizes the top offensive lines in college football. He also earned a place on the 2022 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society and was named the inaugural Father Ted Man of the Year at Notre Dame.

During the 2022 season, Lugg helped the Irish offense average 4.6 yards per carry, racking up 2,457 total rushing yards, and finished the season with 25 total rushing touchdowns as the Irish offense averaged 31.77 points per game.

He played a significant role in helping clear the way for seven games of 220+ yards rushing, with four games of 260+. The Irish ranked 16th nationally in the least TFLs allowed per game.

The signing of Lugg is a smart move by the Bears, who are looking to add depth to their offensive line. While he may not be a starter right away, Lugg has the potential to develop into a reliable backup and provide valuable depth on the Bears' offensive line.
