An old friend returns.
The Chicago Cubs have agreed with free agent reliever Brad Wieck to a two-year minor league deal, according to MLB insider Robert Murray. Wieck missed all of last season with an elbow strain. He underwent Tommy John surgery in July. “This guy just keeps getting knocked down but picks himself back up,” Cubs manager David Ross said back in July. “And he was in a really good place before he got hurt. He put in a lot of work in the offseason. The strength and the mass he had put on, you can visibly see it.” In 2021, he had a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings pitched. Great move by the Cubs to give Wieck another shot to get back to the solid reliever he once was. It's a low cost move but certainly can pay dividends down the line in 2023 and beyond.
