A little concerning issue for the Northsiders.

Chicago Cubs rookie third baseman Matt Shaw is battling a nagging injury that has kept him out of recent workouts.

“He’s got a little oblique (left-side) issue that we’re gonna go slow with,” manager Craig Counsell told reporters Friday. “Don’t anticipate any problems. It’s responding really well, and we’ll go from there.”

Shaw has been dealing with it for 4-5 days since he hit in the batting cages.

“We’re day-to-day,” Counsell said. “It’s short enough to be day-by-day.”

Shaw has hit .303 with 29 homers and 99 RBIS in 159 pro games.
