Thursday's game between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field was delayed due to severe weather in the area.

The game was set to start at 6:40 p.m. CT, but the team announced ahead of the first pitch that the start of the game would be delayed.

"Due to weather in the area, we are in a delay. Please monitor video boards for updates," the video board at Wrigley Field displayed.

The delay was not unexpected, as the weather forecast had been calling for severe thunderstorms in the area for several hours leading up to the game.

Fans who had already arrived at the ballpark were advised to seek shelter and follow safety guidelines until the all-clear is given.

Update: First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 pm CT.
