Cubs Corner with Joey Ricotta: Coronavirus, Roster decisions with Cubs, Predictions, more

by - Senior Editor -

On the latest episode of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony Pasquale chatted with a reporter from the Scarecrow, Joey Ricotta, about various Cubs topics ahead of the season beginning.

While Anthony and Joey planned to tackle questions about the pitching staff, they had to begin by discussing the pandemic that has taken the country by storm over the last week. Instead of talking about Opening Day, the pair first started by explaining that Opening Day is suspended, while all Spring Training games have been canceled, and most facilities vacated due to the outbreak and spread of Covid-19.

That Coronavirus has led to a major halt in all major sports, including baseball, but when the season eventually gets going, David Ross said the opening day starter would be decided between Kyle Hendricks and Yu Darvish. Anthony is team Hendricks, and Joey is team Darvish and the two debate who should get the ball from Ross whenever the Cubs eventually start playing in the 2020 season.

Other topics discussed include: who should be the Cubs’ fifth starter, how the Cubs should use the starters who do not win the battle for the fifth starter as well as analyzing who will be in the bullpen.

While various Cubs pitchers seem like locks to make the roster, Anthony and Joey dove deep into the Cubs pitching staff to predict the entire bullpen that will make the opening day roster. On top of that, they also analyzed the hitters that may or may not make the team.

Find out their predictions and more on the latest edition of the Cubs Corner, available on SoundCloud, Apple Podcasts, and the CubsHQ website.
