Ben Zobrist injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ben Zobrist has been out of the starting lineup since March 19 because of a stiff neck. He is getting better and hopes to play Monday or Tuesday as he has remained in Mesa to get constant treatment with soft tissue work and posture improvements for his neck injury.

At the beginning of the week, it was unmanageable,” Zobrist said to reporters on Sunday. "But now I’m out on the field doing stuff. So I’ll probably play in the game Monday, if not Tuesday."

Carlos Sepulveda will start at second base for the Cubs on Sunday against the San Diego Padres.

In 2016, Zobrist batted .272 with 18 homers, 76 RBI, and .386 on-base percentage. He was named the MVP of the 2016 World Series and helped the Cubs win their first title since 1908.

For his career, he is a .266 hitter with 145 home runs, 643 RBI, .433 slugging, .358 on-base percentage. He has averaged 36 doubles, five triples, 18 homers, 78 RBI, 85 walks and 89 runs per 162 games in his major league career.
