Two Cubs coaches reportedly headed to Angels |
The Chicago Cubs will have a much different look with their players AND coaches in 2020.
Third-base coach Brian Butterfield and strength and conditioning coach Tim Buss will join Joe Maddon with the Angels next season according to multiple reports. Butterfield had been with the Cubs the last two seasons (hired by Maddon) while the well-liked Buss had been with the Cubs since 2001. Buss' loss will obviously be felt but the team wants to use more data-driven analytics in their strength programs instead of old-school methods. Director of high-performance Adam Beard could step in and fill the strength and conditioning role for the Cubs. No word yet on any new coaches under David Ross yet. Venerable strength/conditioning coach Tim Buss leaves Cubs for Angels, about 4 months after Mark O’Neal, Director of Medical Services, departs for U of Arkansas men’s hoops. More changes in Cubs medical/training staff, along with 3B coach Brian Butterfield to Angels.
