Cubs starter Jake Arrieta won't be able to greet President Obama as the Cubs go to the White House on Monday.

"I won't be on that trip," Arrieta said Friday as Cubs Convention. "I would like to. But I've got some other things I got to handle."

Arrieta's mother-in-law recently had brain surgery and is still recovering.

He was 18-8 with a 3.10 ERA with 190 strikeouts and 1.08 WHIP on the season. For his career, he is 74-46 with 3.58 ERA with 907 strikeouts, and 1.16 WHIP.

He will be a free agent after the 2017 season.
