J-Hey does good in the community.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward was named on Thursday the Chicago Cubs nominee for the prestigious 2020 Roberto Clemente Award.
"I just want to say I am honored to be considered for the Roberto Clemente Award for 2020," Heyward said in a video. "It has been important for me to get involved in the community and bring awareness to organizations like 'Future Ties' and 'By the Hand' in the city of Chiago. Thank you."
MLB.com's Alyson Footer said the following about Heyward's work in the local community.
"Since joining the Cubs, Jason Heyward has contributed more than $95,000 to fellow Cubs player foundations and community efforts, demonstrating his commitment to his teammates," she said. "In addition, he has donated to multiple community organizations that work with youth and families in under-resourced communities in Chicago. One organization that he has worked closely with is Future Ties, a nonprofit on the South Side of Chicago which supports low-income families through summer and after-school programs and helps parents build life skills, escape domestic violence and mentor young people in the community. Most recently, when the COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately impacted low-income communities in Chicago, Jason contributed $300,000 to nonprofit organizations that were addressing the severe inequities across Chicago."
J-Hey has quietly and humbly impacted under-resourced communities by offering support to address food insecurity, violence prevention and youth development and has used his voice to speak out against racial injustice.
