Cubs trade for veteran outfielder |
The Chicago Cubs are making several moves to bolster their team for the stretch run.
Right at the deadline, the Cubs traded for Detriot outfielder Cameron Maybin for minor leaguer Zack Short. Short is regarded as the Cubs' No. 21 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. For the season, Maybin is batting .244 (10-for-41) with a homer, four doubles, and two RBI. During his 13-year career, he has an average of .256 with 72 homers and 349 RBI. Solid move by the Cubs as the 33-year-old plays all three outfield positions, hits well, and a good clubhouse presence. He will be a free agent after this season. The Cubs have certainly bolstered their lineup depth with two veterans Jose Martinez and Cameron Maybin in the last few days. Maybin was a first round pick back in 2005. Cameron Maybin has -1 DRS in 96 innings in RF this season for Detroit. Has mostly hit against righties (.244 BA/.726 OPS) and has done better vs. RHP in his career (.714 OPS vs. .670 OPS vs. LHP). Had 127 wRC+ overall in '19 with .915 OPS vs. RHP. Maybin hitting .444 vs lefties! Ok, he's 4 for 9. Career splits are pretty even, littler better v righthanders. Not sure where he fits exactly The addition of Cameron Maybin may signal Albert Almora Jr.'s time with the #Cubs could be coming to a close. Souza, Martínez, Happ, Heyward, Schwarber. Not a ton of space on the bench anymore. The @Cubs have traded for OF @CameronMaybin, per multiple reports. pic.twitter.com/3xfPFhfeX1 Cameron Maybin's heading to Wrigleyville.
