Hoyer on extension talks with Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs President of Operations Jed Hoyer spoke to the media on Wednesday as the first workout for players and catchers started up.

Hoyer was asked about how conversations and possible extension talks have been going with gold glove outfielder Ian Happ and second baseman Nico Hoerner.

"We've had good dialogue with both sides," Hoyer said. "We're not just going to cut it off, because we're here today. My preference is really not to get towards the end of Spring Training and get to a place where I feel like it's affecting the preparation and mentality for the season. And I do think that has happened."

Both players are big pieces for the Cubs' future for the next several years, and hopefully, the team can get something done.

Happ hit .271 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs last season in his gold-glove winning season.

Hoerner had a .281 average with 10 homers and 55 RBIs in 2022.
