Cubs nation was a little shocked when manager David Ross was fired at the beginning of the offseason.

In an interview with USA Today's Bob Nightengale, former Cubs star pitcher Jon Lester shared his thoughts on the surprising move, reflecting on his connection with Ross, who had been both his personal catcher and close friend during their time together in Chicago.

"Talking to some people, I understood," Lester said. "I saw Rossy over New Year’s and kind of understood their decision. But you don’t want buddies to lose their jobs. It sucks. It kind of stung."

While Lester has moved on from the daily grind of pitching in the major leagues, he finds himself reminiscing about the camaraderie shared with his teammates.

"Really, I just miss the competitiveness of it. I don’t miss the grind, the day-to-day and preparing, but I do miss the dinners, the flights, and just the [trash]-talking and all of that stuff."
