The Chicago Bears have made a move to strengthen their defense by signing undrafted rookie D'Anthony Jones.
The 6'3", 270-pound edge rusher out of the University of Houston impressed the Bears during their rookie minicamp over the weekend and earned himself a contract.
Jones played in 27 games for the Houston Cougars over three seasons and put up some impressive numbers, totaling 61 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and eight forced fumbles.
He was named an All-Conference selection and set a record with five forced fumbles in his final season, which tied for the NCAA lead. He also had eight sacks in that season alone.
Standing at 6-3 and weighing 270 pounds, Jones posted a career 87.5 pass-rush grade in college.
He was one of the most productive players in college football with 52 pressures and led all of college football with a 93.1 pass rush grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
Jones drew interest from several other teams after going undrafted, including the Baltimore Ravens, the Washington Commanders, and the Las Vegas Raiders, but ultimately chose to sign with the Bears.
He will now have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot and potentially make an impact on the field.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact Jones will have in his rookie year, but his potential and his impressive college career suggest that he could become a valuable piece of the team's defense in the future.
