Minor League Baseball will not be played in 2020, Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday.
Sadly this will be the first season of no baseball in the minor leagues since it was founded way back in 1901.
MiLB released the following statement about having no season in 2020:
"Major League Baseball has informed Minor League Baseball that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a Minor League Baseball season in 2020," the statement reads. "These are unprecedented times for our country and our organization as this is the first time in our history that we've had a summer without Minor League Baseball played. While this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment.
"Minor League Baseball, which began as the National Association of Professional Leagues, was founded in Sept. 5, 1901."
The Iowa Cubs released the following statement:
“We were aware that our 2020 season had a chance to end this way, however, today’s news is still disappointing both for our fans who enjoy games at Principal Park each season, and for our staff that had already put a lot of hard work into this year,” said Iowa Cubs President and General Manager, Sam Bernabe. “We are setting our sights on April 2021 and look forward to another great year of Minor League Baseball in Des Moines.”
