Ben Zobrist update

by - Senior Editor -

There is news on Tuesday about former Cubs utility man Ben Zobrist.

'Zo' is in camp and will be in uniform as a guest instructor helping out according to multiple reports. He will likely have a similar role as John Lackey in Cubs camp.

It should be a big morale boost for teammates to see Zobrist again wearing that Cubbie blue even if it is just as a temporary coach. If you happen to be locally in Arizona, this might be one of the last times to see Zo in a Cubs uniform anytime soon.

"He’s here just observing, hanging out with the boys,” Ross said via the Chicago Sun-Times. "He's just taking it in here, being around family. It's nice to have a World Series MVP in the room floating around. That never hurts anybody."

Zobrist has not yet officially retired from baseball.

In 2019, he batted .260 with a homer and 17 RBIs. During his four years with the Cubs, he hit .269 with 40 homers and 201 RBIs.

For his impressive MLB career, he batted .266 with 167 homers, 768 RBIs, and had an on-base percentage of .357.
