BALTIMORE – The Chicago Cubs today reinstated right-handed pitcher Alec Mills from the 60-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza to Double-A Tennessee.

Mills, 30, was placed on the 10-day injured list April 7 (retroactive to April 4) with a low back strain. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list May 19 with a left quadriceps strain. In three injury rehabilitation outings with Triple-A Iowa from May 22-June 1, he posted a 3.72 ERA (4 ER/9.2 IP) with three walks and six strikeouts.

In parts of four seasons with the Cubs starting in 2018, Mills has gone 12-13 with two saves, a no-hitter and a 4.47 ERA (117 ER/235.1 IP) in 59 games (37 starts). He has walked 71, struck out 198 and has a 1.29 WHIP. Mills was acquired by Chicago, February 8, 2017, from Kansas City for minor league outfielder Donnie Dewees.
