Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs Saints

by - Correspondent -

Last week was a fantasy shocker for Chicago Bears owners. While wide receiver DJ Moore only had four receptions, his lowest number since facing the Kansas City Chiefs in week three, tight end Cole Kmet went off with 10 receptions for 79 yards. What will this week in fantasy football bring against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday (Noon / CBS)? That is anyone’s guess.

DJ Moore - Start

Fantasy may be unpredictable, especially with Chicago Bears players. But, there is no reason to bench Moore. With Fields and with Bagent at quarterback, Moore is going to get a lot of receptions. Particularly after Moore only got one reception in the second half, he is someone where there is going to be an emphasis on getting him the ball. Therefore, he should definitely be a start in all fantasy leagues and seems poised to put up more production than last week.

Cole Kmet - Sit

After getting 10 receptions last week, it might seem crazy to bench him. However, Kmet is probably one of the more volatile players in fantasy right now. Two weeks ago, he did not get a single target. Fields being the quarterback also does not impact how volatile Kmet’s fantasy numbers are. There are more consistent options available at tight end. Only consider starting Kmet if your starting tight end (such as LaPorta with the Detroit Lions) is on bye this week.

Roschon Johnson - Start Depending on Roster

There are a few key players that are on bye this week, primarily Travis Etienne with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Christian McCaffrey with the San Francisco 49ers. So, if you are a team with one of these players on bye, you may have a gap to fill in your running back room. Johnson is a risky player to start because he has not had a single game with over 10 rush attempts. His upside comes from his involvement in the receiving game. In every game he has been able to play and finish, he has had at least one reception. If you need a running back, Johnson is not a bad option, particularly in a half points per reception (PPR) or full PPR league. But, there is still quite a bit of risk.

Darnell Mooney - Sit, But Keep on Roster

The Saints have allowed the second-lowest passing percentage to opposing quarterbacks. Mooney may be getting the targets, particularly with Bagent at quarterback. But, it does not seem likely that he will get a lot of receptions. If you were to start Mooney, it would basically be making the assumption that he is going to score a touchdown. Given he has not done that since the season opener, it does not seem likely that is going to happen against New Orleans. But, he is still worth keeping around on your roster in the event things change.

Bears Defense - Maybe?

A defense that allowed 30 points the previous week is generally not one you want to start. They are also last in sacks. But, with the addition of Montez Sweat, the sack numbers could turn around. The Saints are also not the best in the red zone, shown by the lack that the Saints are second in the league in field goal attempts. This is obviously a risky move, but one that could pay off, especially with cornerback Jaylon Johnson hungry to prove his worth to NFL teams, potentially leading to more turnovers.
